SNOWBALL EFFECT (dir. Pauliina Punkki, 2023, 90 min)
Film director Punkki sets out to find out what really happened in the Lapland municipality of Kittilä?
SNOWBALL EFFECT tells about one of the biggest political scandals in Finnish history. Film director Pauliina Punkki dives deep into the shocking series of events in the Lapland municipality. How did the election of a young feminist mayor set in motion a snowball effect that is still spinning? The film takes the viewer on an eventfull journey to the Lapland fells. Its is a tragic story about the shaky structures of Finnish democracy.
Municipal politics is a passion, at least in Finnish Lapland.
Such a snowball effect can happen anywhere and anytime, including in a winter wonderland, in the middle of the northern lights and in one of the least corrupt countries in the world.
